We were thrilled to explore one of Hong Kong’s lesser-known gems—Lei Yue Mun, a spot tucked away on the eastern edge of Victoria Harbour. Just a 15-minute walk from MTR Yau Tong Station, Lei Yue Mun is popular among locals, yet often overlooked by tourists who tend to flock to Sai Kung for seafood. Here, you can indulge in fresh, delicious seafood at fairer prices, making it an ideal spot for those in the know.
Our adventure took us off the beaten path, as we wandered through small village lanes, taking a little detour in search of the full route. Getting a bit lost only added to the experience, offering a glimpse into authentic Hong Kong life away from the usual tourist crowds.
The best surprise of the day came at the end of our walk—a stunning mini beach with gentle seaside waves and the iconic yellow hues of winter. The golden grass lining the coast is an Instagram hotspot during the cooler months, adding a magical touch to the already picturesque setting.
Historically, Hong Kong was known for its mining industry, and Lei Yue Mun Quarry was once a prominent mining site. Though the industry faded in the 1980s, remnants of the old stone houses still stand, making this area a fascinating blend of history and nature. During autumn and winter, the golden reeds and abandoned stone houses, set against the backdrop of the towering mountain, create a breathtaking scene.
This walk was not just about the destination but the journey itself. From fresh seafood to hidden beaches and rich history, Lei Yue Mun offered us a peaceful escape from the city’s usual hustle and bustle.
