| BARI, ITALY |
It was one of those classic hot, humid August days in southern Italy—mid-summer, with the sun in full force. In Bari, everything usually slows down after lunch, with most shops closing during the hottest part of the day. That left the narrow streets of the Old Town nearly empty, perfect for filming without the usual crowds.
We started our walk at the Basilica San Nicola, weaving through the labyrinthine streets of the historic center. The little alleyways had an almost dreamlike quality in the heat, and it was easy to get lost in the maze of stone houses and winding paths. Despite the relentless sun, it was a great opportunity to capture the raw beauty of Bari’s Old Town in peace and quiet.
Eventually, we found ourselves at Via Venezia, where the shimmering sea provided a much-needed breath of fresh air. The view of the water was the perfect reward after navigating the tangled streets. But by the time we finished filming, we were utterly exhausted from the heat. The intensity of the summer sun had zapped our energy, and all we could think about was cooling off.
During our days in Bari, we developed a bit of a guilty pleasure: indulging in high-energy foods and cold, sugary drinks like soda and gelato to keep us going. After this particular walk, we caved in once again, enjoying some well-deserved refreshments. There’s something about the heat in Bari that just makes you crave those little indulgences even more!
